Mission

Mainly the mission of the Department of Law is to provide highly qualified students with a superior legal education. Furthermore-

M1: To offer the strong academic excellency equipped with modern international standard with a view to producing well-educated graduates adorned with up to date knowledge who can become productive members of the legal arena in home and abroad.

M2: To make them able with the academic component of the University's mission and morally sound which is the part of IIUC’s aim to provide a strong academic program.

M3: To provide quality education and also strive to instill moral values into the students.

M4: To enable the graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitude, and ethical values necessary to be successful practitioners who are able to impart positive social impacts at the state, regional, national, and international levels.

To produce graduates comprehensively trained up and socially responsible, innovative and of high quality with morality who can contribute to build nation and lead the globe at large.

Objectives

To instill in IIUC graduates the knowledge, skills, attitude, and ethical values necessary to be successful practitioners who are able to impart positive social impacts at the state, regional, national, and international levels. Additionally, IIUC seek to provide the necessary academic background for Law graduates pursuing advanced degrees.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) or goals are the expected of the graduates within the first few years of their graduation form program. The program objectives are guided by global and local needs, the institution’s vision and long-term goals etc. The program objectives are expected to continuously evolve in the agreement with local employers, R & D advisors and alumni.

PEO-1: To provide the strong academic training to students becoming educated members of society who can both join and make significant contributions to the Legal profession.

PEO-2: Enable graduates to keep on self- development throughout their careers.

PEO-3: Producing graduates with the necessary background both legal and professional skills to work professionally and fulfilling the legal needs of society.

PEO-4: To promote learners to research innovation, commercialization and Entrepreneurship resulting them self motivated, self employed and independent rational thinkers.

PEO-5: To enable the learners as successful practitioners in legal arena and to generate the teaching of morality to lead a quality life and career, create quality leadership who will lead the country and globe at large.

PEO-6: Demonstrating the graduates with the ability to identify, compare the propose and the principles of the substantive and procedural enactments.

PEO-7: Understanding fundamental legal and natural principles of law, synthesize relevant rules of law and its aspects.

Admission Requirements

  • Total GPA 6.00 in SSC/Dakhil & HSC/Alim but scoring not less than GPA 2.50 in any individual examination. OR
  • Minimum 5 (five) subjects in O level and 2 (two) major subjects in A level with minimum ‘B’ grade in 4 subjects and ‘C’ grade in 3 subjects.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) with Graduate Attributes

The program teaches its graduates not only to lean but also to apply those in practical field. The overall program goal is the education, training, and development of students thereby fostering an understanding and appreciation of the law, ethical responsibilities, and practical training to enhance their personal and professional ability to adapt and grow with changes in the legal environment. The first two years basic theoretical and substantive law courses give the students a concrete basis to be lawyer, judge and other judicial and quasi judicial posts. They begin court oriented and procedural courses from third year and step by step will be acquainted with special laws of the country including law making and amending process by competent authority. Our graduates are expected to have knowledge of international affairs from few courses that will able them to think and deal the international legal issues on air, water and sea. After successful completion of the degree, the graduates will achieve the following Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

PLO-1: To acquire knowledge of law both substantive and procedural, develop critical thinking amongst students and practicing those in legal field.

PLO-2: To make students eligible for the enrolment examination in Bangladesh Bar Council (BBC) to become legal practitioner before the Courts and Tribunals within the Country.

PLO-3: To provide a platform to be the Judges in Courts through participating examination under Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJS).

PLO-4: To possess professional skills required for legal practice such as argument, pleadings, drafting etc on various legal issues of native and global.

PLO-5: To develop ideal leadership qualities, develop and practice morality and applying same in real life, apply professional standard and ethics enabling the students to adopt best decision predicting future legal and social consequences from such decision.

PLO-6: Identifying, understanding and applying the principles that govern dispute settlement keeping highest standard of civic virtue.

PLO-7: Ability to apply legal maxims making them independent thinkers, develop legal research skills & legal reasoning to face new legal challenges in upcoming days.

Admission Test

Application for admission to LLB (Hons.) shall be invited through an announcement in the National/Local Dailies and IIUC website www.iiuc.ac.bd twice a year. The deserving candidates have to apply through IIUC website www.iiuc.ac.bd or web link https://www.iiuc.ac.bd/home/apply-online. Students are admitted through a competitive written test. Usually questions paper are designed as semi broad & MCQ Type. Marks allocation of admission test are:

Admission Period

Students are admitted into “LLB (Hons.)” program twice a year as follows:

Duration

In order to complete LL.B. (Hons) program at the International Islamic University Chittagong, normally takes four academic years (i.e.8 Semesters). Each academic year is divided into 2 Semesters (Spring Semester: January-June and Autumn Semester: July -December), having a duration of 15 weeks’ classes in each semester. The duration of theory classes shall usually be of 60 minutes. One unit of theory (1T) is normally 4 credit hours and 4 contact hours per week. One unit of Lab. (1L) is 2 credit hours and 3 contact hours. Each course carries 100 marks. There shall be assignments, class tests, mid-term, final exam, thesis/ project/ internship, presentations, viva-voce, industry visits, court visits, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. No student shall ordinarily be admitted after the class starts and without due process of admission. The Mid-term Examination will be held after conducting 6 weeks’ classes and Final Examination termed as Semester End Examination (SEE) will be held after 9 week classes at the end of each semester. In order to graduate, total 150 Credit Hours (CH) to be undertaken and completed by a student during 8 semesters. A student may be allowed to complete his/her graduation studies in the University within 8-12 (eight to twelve) academic years (i.e.12 semesters). The duration of each semester is 6 months.

The Grading System for assessing the performance of the students shall be as follows:

Calculation of GPA and CGPA

GPA: Grade Point Average (GPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the number of credit hours attempted in a particular semester.

CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is computed by dividing the total grade point earned by the total number of credit hours attempted at the diploma courses up to that point of time.

Achieving minimum GPA in each semester

A student shall have to obtain minimum GPA 2.00 in each semester.

Achieving minimum GPA in for awarding degree

A student shall have to obtain minimum CGPA 2.50 for awarding degree.
